Starting Medical School

Medical school is very different from school, college or even previous degrees. It allows you some fantastic experiences and there is nowhere else where you will ever learn this amount of information (don't worry it is all broken down). However, at first this can all be a bit daunting and there are certai things that you need/need to do:

1. Look after yourself both physically and mentally. Sometimes this can be a bit of a challenge, especially if it is your first time away from home. Remember to eat regularly and healthily (don't always pick the triple carb option if you are in catered accommodation).

2. Make sure to have a good support network, including both friends and family.  On the days you feel particularly bad, it is good to have a rant to your family and friends. Although they sometimes seem like a pain, it is important to have someone who can make you feel better.

3. Keep a good sleeping habit - Sleep is very important and helps you focus. Try and get into a good routine so you are able to concentrate on your lectures.

4. Don't be worried about meeting new people, everyone is in the same situation as you. Try and make as many new friends as you can!

5. Try and get on with people other than medics. Sometimes it is nice to escape medics (especially around exam time). Make a good impression with your flatmates and this will be able to give you an escape.
